Country Classroom School welcomes applicants for the position of Early Childhood Teacher for our preschool program.

 

Country Classroom is a small, independent school and summer camp located in beautiful Schoharie County.

Country Classroom’s half-day preschool program supports the healthy growth of young children. There is plenty of time for both indoor and outdoor free play. The Early  Childhood teacher leads students in song, movement and nature exploration. There are daily opportunities to draw, write, read and craft. Life skills, such as effective communication, cleanliness and table manners are also taught. Children's behavior is managed without punishments.

 

Our ideal candidate will love working with young children. He or she will have a professional, nurturing demeanor and dedication to the profession, to young children, and to their families. He or she must have excellent spoken and written command of English and solid communication skills. Candidates should enjoy working in a team with adults that strive to live with integrity, honesty and respect for others. A sense of humor and flexibility are essential. We would love to find someone with experience teaching young children outdoors and who can speak some Spanish.

 

The responsibilities of the Preschool teacher include:

  • Planning and teaching a morning preschool class for 3-5 year olds.

  • Helping students make friends and play together.

  • Helping students to learn strategies to constructively resolve interpersonal conflict.

  • Using non-punitive techniques to shape students’ behavior.

  • Planning and supervising field trips.

  • Introducing literacy, phonics and numbers in age-appropriate ways.

  • Supervising older school children during recess, lunch and transitions.

  • Communicating effectively with parents about the needs and growth of the children.

  • Participating in bi-weekly teacher meetings as well as parent-teacher conferences.

  • Preparing written assessments of the student’s progress twice each year, according to the template provided.

  • Writing a paragraph for the weekly parent newsletter for the Country Classroom Blog.

  • Managing school supplies and a clean classroom space.

 

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education or related discipline preferred.

  • Early Childhood teaching certification preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or 10 years or more experience working in Early Childhood Education.

  • Experience with Early Education literacy preferred.

 

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary commensurate with experience starting at $15 per hour.

  • Professional environment of experienced and dedicated teachers.

 

Schedule:

  • September - June

  • 30-40 hours per week, all mornings. Afternoons are negotiable.
